Some cook for fun and pleasure or maybe as a hobby, others do it as a necessity. Whichever the case may be the right tools and appliances can make thing easier and turn out better. Whether you’re an experienced cook or just want to get better at it, there are certain things that you should have in your kitchen.
Beginner or experienced cooks will agree that a good set of knives is a requirement. Most cooking starts by cutting things. Most of the prep work requires chopping, cutting, slicing and dicing so a good set of knives only makes sense. As a good cook it also makes sense to keep those knives sharp. Give those knives a good sharpening every couple of weeks.
Another thing every cook should have is a sauté pan. A good sauté pan is good for everything from basic veggie sautéing to cooking all kinds of sauces. A good 12-inch sauté pan will get you through most of your cooking requirements.
Most cooking includes some kind of oven baking so you’re going to need an oven baking dish. You can buy that individually or as a set, but you will be needing at least one good baking dish at some point in your cooking life.
Some heat resistant silicone spatulas come in handy in too many ways to count. Everything from scrambling eggs to mixing deserts and stir fry will be so much easier with some of these at your reach.
Once you’ve gotten past the basics and want to get a little more creative, a slower cooker is good to have around. A slow cooker will open up a whole different world of cooking. Chowders, paellas, wings and ribs will all be on your menu with a slow cooker.
Don’t forget some fine mesh strainers. These will come in handy and you’ll be glad you have them.
