Tastes in food change over time and some foods that were once hard to find become all the rage. Sushi comes to mind, it’s been around for a while but it recent years it has become very popular. Better quality fast foods are becoming popular although they still have a long way to go to be considered really healthy. With that in mind, here are some interesting food trends we may soon be seeing and tasting.
Foods from the far East are gaining popularity. Filipino foods and culinary influences from places like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore may become more available than they are now. Things to watch for are sambal, kaffir lime, Filipino adobo and South East Asian street foods that may soon be gaining popularity.
Restaurants are starting to offer lower-intensity gut-friendly menu items. With an eye on health, restaurants will add Probiotic, prebiotic and anti-inflammatory ingredients into the foods on the menu. There will also be hot and spicy offerings paired with tangy fruity or sweet flavors to excite the taste buds.
The delivery and take out business is driving great change for restaurants. We can already see a growing number of concepts in design specifically meant to facilitate delivery and take out. Restaurants realize that there is a huge market out there for take out and delivery. Delivery services such as Door Dash and Uber Eats have prompted restaurants to revamp older pickup areas, and separate drive throughs for third party and in-house delivery drivers. There is also a growing demand for grab and go, and heat and eat meals that is spurring innovation around travel friendly options.
There is also a new trend to re-engage with the baby boomers with more restaurants formatted for the casual dining experience. Operators hope to capture some of this generations disposable income with such offerings.
With more taste to choose from and more ways to get a meal, these trends look like good news for the consumer.
