Halloween is almost here—a time to enjoy, have fun, and get goosebumps everywhere, even at the table. That’s why today we bring you four spooky dishes from around the world to celebrate Halloween.
Linguine
“Little tongues” sounds like an item on a witch’s shopping list. Instead, linguine (“little tongues” in Italian) is a type of pasta similar to spaghetti that goes particularly well with seafood. Any linguine recipe that includes red sauce simulating blood is a scarily delicious idea for your Halloween dinner.
Pan de Muerto
When it comes to spooky food, it doesn’t get spookier than Mexican pan de muerto, or “dead man’s bread.” The origins of this type of bread date back to the Aztec empire, when people made food offerings to the gods. This custom changed after the arrival of the Spanish, and the vast array of offerings of the indigenous people of Mexico was merged into a single food: the Pan de Muerto we know today.
Bloody Mary
No Halloween party is complete without drinks, and no cocktail is as spooky as a Bloody Mary. Although there are different theories about how the cocktail got its name, the most famous Bloody Mary is Queen Mary I of England, who earned the nickname due to her ruthless persecution of Protestant heretics during the 16th century.
Sanguette
The French can turn almost any ingredient into delicious food, and blood is no exception to this rule. For example, sanguette is a traditional recipe from Southwest France that calls for the fresh blood of birds or lamb. Cthulhu would be proud.
